World Media to China: Mysteries of Chen Guangcheng

World Media to China: Mysteries of Chen Guangcheng
Thursday, May 3, 2012

On May 2, Chinese blind lawyer Chen Guangcheng was making a phone call on his way to hospital in a car from the US Embassy in China, accompanied by US ambassador to China Gary Locke
The Chinese blind lawyer Chen Guangcheng was treated with years of brutal abuses and illegal house arrest from the local authorities in his hometown Linxi, Shandong province. One week ago, Chen escaped the house arrest and the pursuit by the guards, and entered the US Embassy in Beijing with help of his supporters. His escape became worldwide news. In the meantime, the various Chinese media under the tight control of the central government remained a unanimous silence about this issue.

Chinese Government’s Riddle-like News
On Wednesday May 2, the Chinese official news media Xinhua News suddenly issued several reports on Chen Guangcheng:
Chen Guangcheng entered the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and left of his own volition.

Chinese Foreign Ministry held a news conference on Chen’s entering into US Embassy.

China demands the U.S to apologize for a Chinese citizen's entering the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, and provide guarantees that similar actions never recur again

Who is Chen Guangcheng? Why did he enter into the US Embassy in China? Why did he leave of his own volition after that?

According to Xinhua News, a Foreign Minister spokesman says, “The US Embassy in China took Chen Guangcheng, a Chinese citizen, into the Embassy via abnormal means, with which China expresses strong dissatisfaction. The US move is an interference in China's internal affairs, which is completely unacceptable to China.”

How did the US Embassy in China bring Chen into its premise “via abnormal means?” How did US interfere in China's internal affairs by allowing a free Chinese citizen to enter its Embassy? What kind of specific apologies US was requested to make?

The news from the official news media Xinhua appeared to be like a series of riddles. There were no explanations from Xinhua News. And other news media in China were not allowed to report this incident on its own, except reposting the riddle-like news from Xinhua News.

In the meantime, the largest internet user website Sina.com listed “left of his own volition” and “Chen Guangcheng” as forbidding words, which would return no search results.

The Key to the Riddle on Chen Guangcheng
The newest updates on Chen was provided by Kyoko Yamaguchi and Guan Taiqing, two reporters from a major Japanese newspaper Daily Yomiuri’s Beijing office, which gave people some hints on the keys to Xinhua News’ riddle-like news:

“The Chinese blind rights activist Chen Guangcheng, 40 years old, who was under the protection of US Embassy, was transferred to a hospital in Beijing on May 2. He met with his family there. A high ranking US official indicated that this was the result of the under-the-table negotiation between US and China. According to the negotiation, Chen will stay in China and China guarantees his safety. With the approaching of U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue on May 3, the two countries agreed to avoid making this human rights incident a big issue and came into an agreement.”

“It’s the first time for a high ranking US official to admit that Chen was under the protection of US Embassy. Chen didn’t want to be a refugee. The US official also indicated that Chen would be transported to a safe place with his family after leaving the hospital, so that he could get the college education he’s looking forward to. It’s believed that Chinese government also agreed to allow US embassy personnel to visit Chen on a regular basis. Besides, as the persecution he suffered from the local government in Shandong, the Chinese government promised further investigation.”

Xinhua News’ Another Story

The China official news media Xinhua reported that Foreign Minister spokesman Liu Weimin said on Wednesday that China requested the US to apologize for this matter, carry out further investigation, punish those responsible, and promise this kind of incident not occur in the future. And China noticed that US responded with urgency and concerns and promised to take necessary measures to prevent the similar incidents in the future. US should reflect upon its policies and ways of handling this matter, in order to maintain the healthy relationship between the two countries.

According to Xinhua News, Liu also said that Chinese government emphasized that China was a country governed by laws. Any individual’s legal rights were protected by the constitution and laws, while any individual had the obligation to abide by the constitution and the laws.

Liu didn’t say what sections of law, regulation or constitution Chen violated by seeking protection from US embassy.

Leaving US Embassy of his Own Volition
Le Figaro reporter Arnaud de Lagrange reported from Beijing on Wednesday that the explanation provided by the US embassy for taking Chen into its premise was that their action was out of humanity reason, because Chen was indeed injured during escaping from his house arrest. And US embassy personnel did help him with his entry into the embassy. But US said it was totally legal to do so. Arnaud de Lagrange also reported that after his leaving one diplomat of the US embassy indicated that Chen left of his own volition.

“A US diplomat indicated that Chen left the US embassy of his own volition. One US diplomat requesting his name not be mentioned said Chen Guangcheng didn’t apply for asylum and he left of his own volition. Chen wanted to stay in China. Earlier, he got the promise from the Chinese government that he’d be treated like an ordinary citizen. Chen was accompanied by US Ambassador Gary Locke to go to the hospital for medical treatment. On his way there, he called his lawyer Li Jinsong, ‘I am free, and I’ve got definite promise.’”

Hilary Clinton, the Secretary of State, made a statement.
Clinton made a statement on Chen after he left the US Embassy and was brought to a safe place later:

"I am pleased that we were able to facilitate Chen Guangcheng's stay and departure from the U.S. embassy in a way that reflected his choices and our values. I was glad to have the chance to speak with him today and to congratulate him on being reunited with his wife and children.

"Mr. Chen has a number of understandings with the Chinese government about his future, including the opportunity to pursue higher education in a safe environment. Making these commitments a reality is the next crucial task. The United States government and the American people are committed to remaining engaged with Mr. Chen and his family in the days, weeks, and years ahead."

Chen’s Phone Call with Washington Post Reporter
About 3pm in Wednesday afternoon, Chen left the US Embassy with the company of US Ambassador to China, going to Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. On his way to the hospital, he called a Washington Post reporter and told him that he was fine and was on his way to the hospital. Washington Post’s Beijing station reporter
Keith Richburg reported in his article that he didn’t expect such a phone call from Chen. He said, “An employee of the US Embassy called me later after Chen’s phone call. He explained that it’s Chen himself requesting to call a Washington Post reporter, not Gary Locke. Chen knew the international media’s reports about his case. And he’s especially familiar with an article written by one of my colleagues Phillip Pan in 2005 on Washington Post, which was about forced abortion and sterilization in Linyi, Shandong. (When the international media heard of Chen’s phone call to Washington Post’s Beijing office,) numerous phone calls were made to US Embassy in China, complaining its personnel had been partial to certain media.

Not Everything was Good News

With the news emerging that Chen arrived at a relatively safe place, US Los Angeles Times and UK the Guardian Weekly quoted Chen’s friend Zeng Jinyan as saying that the reason why Chen agreed to leave the US Embassy was because he’s threatened that if he didn’t leave, his family members would be house arrested again. It happened earlier that Chen and his family members were beaten regularly during house arrest. And they were denied access to medical treatment even being injured.

The Guardian Weekly reporters
Jonathan Watts and Tania Branigan issued a joint report, “Zeng Jinyan told people on her Twitter that the self-educated lawyer Chen Guangcheng chose to leave the US Embassy, because he’s told that if he didn’t, his wife and children would be sent back to Shandong. There in Shandong, they were harassed by the local government for years. It’s believed that during house arrest Chen and his wife experienced brutal beatings by the guards for many years. And the US Embassy officers couldn’t be reached for comments. Chen’s friends and other rights activists showed their doubts on the faithfulness of promise from the Chinese authorities regarding Chen’s safety.”

In the meantime, AP reported from its Beijing office that its reporter talked on phone with Chen, who was inside the hospital. Chen expressed his concerns about the safety of himself and his family in China, hoping to settle down in a location away from China. He said he chose to leave the US Embassy after being told by the embassy personnel that if he didn’t leave, his wife would be killed.

US Department of State spokesman accordingly denied Chen’s such claims, saying that no one in the US Embassy mentioned such words to him. And Chinese officials didn’t ask the US to forward such words to Chen either. It’s Chen who insisted that he’d rather stay in China. But he also admitted that China was planning to send Chen’s wife and children back to Shandong. In Shandong, Chen’s family members were detained illegally and beaten constantly.

US and China, Each Has its Own Motives

Chen, who suffered abuses and mistreatment from the local government officials, entered into US Embassy in Beijing with the help of friends, and escaped the unlawful house arrest. His acts caused a problem in both political and diplomatic areas for the both countries.

Upon Chen’s departure from the US Embassy, the
Mainichi Newspapers published its Beijing reporter Yamamoto Kenichi’s reports, which provided a brief introduction to the two countries’ standing and concerns on the political side of Chen’s case.

“Human rights activist Chen Guangcheng of Shandong, China, who had escaped from house arrest, first got the protection from US Embassy in China. Then he was moved to a hospital in Beijing. On Chen’s issue, the US and China government shared certain common areas after negotiation. The U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue was to be held on May 3 in Beijing. It’s believed that both sides agreed to avoid Chen’s case to become a long-term issue. In the meantime, international observers were impressed by the flexibility that China showed during the whole process.
“Obama government is facing the coming election. If it responded in a weak way regarding the human rights issue in China, it will make the Republicans blame it more. Another problem is whether it can get China’s compromise on this issue. The US real motive is to avoid the acceleration of confrontation, because US needs China’s indispensable help on the North Korea issue and Iran’s nuclear problems.”

Chen Guangcheng’s Supporters Abused and Treated with Cruelty

Chen Guangcheng’s Supporters Abused and Treated with Cruelty

Saturday, May 5, 2012

Security guard stopping people from taking pictures outside the gate of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital, where Chen was getting medical exam

On May 2, Chen was accompanied by
U.S. Ambassador to China Gary Locke and went from US Embassy in Beijing to a hospital to take a medical exam. Many human rights activists were abused and treated with cruelty by the authorities when they tried to visit Chen, a blind rights activist, in a hospital in Beijing.
Jiang Tianyong lost his hearing due to the beating by the security personnel after making efforts to see Chen.
After Chen entered Beijing Chaoyang Hospital on May 2, rights activist lawyer Jiang Tianyong tried to enter the hospital to see Chen. Jiang was taken away by Beijing Haidian District security personnel on May 3, at about 6pm. He was released around 3am in the morning of May 4. His wife Jin Bianling told the news on her twitter, “Jiang Tianyong was back at 3:35. He had been brought to a hotel near Linglong Road by Du Huiyu, a Beijing Haidian District security official. Du cruelly beat my husband. Now one of his ears hardly can hear anything, and the other has lost its hearing. At least five of them took part in the beating.”

The 41-year-old Jiang Tianyong was once a renowned rights activist in China. He’s now a legal coordinator of Beijing Aizhixing Institute. He was engaged in numerous rights activities, including rescuing the Aids infectors in China and promoting the rights for them, investigation of Shanxi Illegal Brickyards Incidents, direct election among lawyers in Beijing, and Falun Gong cases. He has been on the blacklist of the Beijing authorities, being placed under monitoring, harassment and intimidation for many years. In July 2009, he was disbarred by Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice.

Jiang was detained by police on 02-19-11 and released on 04-20-11.

Friends were investigated by security authority after visiting Jiang.
When Pang Kun, a lawyer from Shenzhen and a friend of Jiang, arrived in Beijing with his friend to help Jiang with a medical exam in hospital because of his injuries, Pang and his friend were requested to leave with security officials when they were still at Jiang’s. They were brought into a nearby hotel. And there Pang took an interview from VOA on phone. At that time, he had stayed in that hotel for nearly two hours and was taken written record of the investigation by the officers.

He said, “After the investigation, we were still restrained inside the hotel. We were planning to accompany him for a doctor visit. But we couldn’t do it.”

Pang said that, according to his close look, Jiang’s left face became apparent reddish and swollen. Reporter of this news tried to contact Jiang but in vain. And his cell phone remained powered off till the press time. Jiang’s wife said through the internet, “Jiang complained a whistling sound in his left ear. And when holding his breath letting the air focus move to the ear areas, he felt the air was going out from the left ear, and the right ear was blocked. I researched online and thought it’s probably due to tympanic membrane perforations.”

Jiang was rejected from leaving his home to see the doctor.
On May 4, around 7:30pm China local time, Pang updated his microblog by saying, “I’m free now with my friend. But Jiang was still locked inside his home, not being able to see the doctor.”

Till the press time of this article, Jiang was still restricted inside his home and denied his right to see the doctor. The reporter from VOA tried to call Du Yuhui, the security officer, without success.

Du Yanlin was claimed to be involved in causing disturbance and disorderly conduct.
Additionally, Du Yanlin, an accountant of Aiweiwei Arts Studio, went to see Chen Guangcheng in the hospital with his friend on May 3 and had the similar experience. He said that when he was interviewed by the media outside the hospital gate, the security personnel tried to drag him away by force, but failed. After returning back to his company, they came to his office for further investigation.

Du said, “After the interview outside the hospital, I went back to my office by taxi. They followed me to my office. They showed me their identifications of Chaoyang Police Bureau. They asked me if I was at Chaoyang Hospital. And I replied yes. Then I was told that I was involved in causing disturbance and disorderly conduct, and had to go with them for further investigation. To that I replied, I am fine with that.”

Inside their car outside his company, the security personnel warned him better to keep quiet.

Liu Yi was beaten near Chaoyang Hospital.

Relatively speaking, one of Du Yanlin’s friend, Liu Yi, was not that fortunate to avoid the beating. He was beaten by the security personnel near the hospital. Liu said later, “Out of nowhere, he and several other people came up to me and dragged me away. Though I resisted, I was taken to a corner of a yard north of the hospital gate. There, while others holding me up, Deng hit hard on my head with a water bottle from behind.”

Liu also said that they kept hitting him with the water bottle, even after several short breaks. They took away his cell phone and put him into their car by pressing his head hard. He was taken to Sanlitun Police Station to record the investigation in writing. He was released after nearly four hours’ detaining in the police station.

Earthquake among Government Officials in Jin Cheng City of Shanxi Province, China: the wealthiest in Energy Industry Suspected of Causing RMB80 Billion Losses of State-owned Assets

The Battle between the Two Wealthiest behind the News on “RMB80 Billion Losses of State-owned Assets”

By Peng Junyong, reporter of New Finance, in Beijing

Lv Zhonglou, Chairman of the Board of Qinhe Energy Group Co.Ltd and the richest person in the energy industry of Shanxi province, was pushed to the center of storm again and again with the rumors of “embezzlement of RMB80 billion state-owned assets” and  being a “runaway boss.”

Surrounding this businessman who has the highest academic diploma among coal bosses in China, negative public tip-offs, government auditing, denials, written instructions from high level leaders, and business conflicts kept unfolding. And the business battles behind the disputes left over by the coal mine reforms years ago has not come to an end up to today.

When I met Lv Zhonglou, he played in his fingers a piece of cigarette, which he jerked several times in his hand, rubbed slightly between his fingers, and jerked it again, not lighting it up. It appeared that, at the age of 47, he met a substantial obstacle in his life.

In the afternoon of May 4, when Lv, Chairman of the Board of Qinhe Energy Group Co., was sitting in front of the reporter of New Finance in a hotel near West Sanhuan Road in Beijing, the rumors that he had run away was everywhere on the media. In the same time, the news was spreading that Zhang Xinming, one of his former business partners and now a business competitor, was listed as wanted by police because of unlawfully leaving the country with a fake passport.

Among the wealthiest coal bosses in Shanxi province, Lv is renowned in China’s coal industry for his highest academic diploma and competence in modern enterprise management. If he becomes a “runaway” boss, the shock from it will be well off the limit of Shanxi province and the coal industry itself.

Lv complained, “If there’s any negative news in Shanxi, I’d be dragged into it involuntarily. It happened several times like this.”

The so-called “negative news” referred to the “earthquake” that had been happening among the government officials in Jincheng City, Shanxi province. For the recent half a year, at least four officials of deputy county magistrate’s level or above were placed under Shuanggui, a form of investigative detention for cadres. And several dozen more were being investigated.
According to the person close to the investigation, the first person falling into trouble was Wang Youming, who was placed under Shuanggui while acting as an inspector at vice department chief’s level and former head of Bureau of Land and Resources of Jincheng City. His detaining was followed by the arrest of secretary of county committee of Qinshui County of Jincheng City. And Qinhe Energy Group Co.Ltd, of which Lv Zhonglou was the Chairman of the Board, is located just inside Qinshui County.

When the rumors that Lv ran away just emerged, some people even set off firecrackers to celebrate his fall in front of the Jincheng municipal office building.

The headquarter of Qinhe Energy Group Co. Ltd is locatedin Qinshui County of Jincheng City, Shanxi province. In 2001, Qinhe was founded on the basis of reorganizing and reforming of “Three-Mine One-Station”, which refers to three coal mines and one coal distribution station. Qinhe’s business focus was on anthracite coal, coal chemistry and finances. Lv, the Chairman, is a native of Qinshui County, who was called the first person holding the highest academic diploma among the coal bosses in Shanxi province, after returning back to his hometown with a PHD degree in Western Economics in 1994.
In contrast with his outstanding background, the breaking news was “Shanxi vice department chief involved in the embezzlement of RMB80 billion state-owned assets.” It was referred to the claim that Qinhe Energy Group Co., Ltd was actively involved in the “conspiracy among government officials and businessmen to sell state-owned assets below value,” which happened during Qinhe’s reorganization in 2001. Some of the officials being investigated were among the major decision makers of the reorganizing and reforming of “Three-Mine One-Station.” They were listed as the major targets to be investigated in the blood-tear complaints by 39 veteran cadres.

Apparently, the “runaway boss” rumor was not true. Through the confirmation of New Finance reporter, Lv went to work as usual on May 2 in his company’s office building in Haidian District, Beijing. He also attended the board of directors meeting as scheduled in April in Jicheng city, at which he even casted his opposing vote.
“I have nothing to do with the fall of the head of Bureau of Land and Resources. Someone has been interested in dragging me down with these things,” Lv said to the New Finance reporter. He also said, “Whenever there’s negative news, I’d be said to be involved in it.”

But according to a source familiar with this matter, these rumors had their own origins. While having nothing to do with the fall of many Jicheng city officials, these rumors were closely related to the coal industry in Qinshui county of Jicheng city.

People of Qinshui County regard the coal resource buried deep under earth as the only thing that they can boast about. This resource is also an important tool to attract business and investment for the locals.

With continuous rising of the price, coal, once being ignored generally, has become a hot spot in the center of contentions, revolving which are the never ending conflicts among the interest groups.

Qinshui County, located in the heart of Qinshui coal fields, has coal resource in 94% of its 2500 square kilometer area. In 2000, the county’s finance income was only RMB72.25 million, listed as one of the poorest counties in Shanxi province.

In 2001, coal industry reforms were initiated in Qinshui county by reorganizing into a sole entity the state-owned Yonghong Coal Mine, Yong-an Coal Mine, Houcun Coal Mine and Jiafeng Distribution Station, the so-called Three-Mine One-Station. Its purpose was to establish a group holding corporation by selling state-owned stocks at the value of its net assets.

On 12-12-01, Qinhe Energy Group Co. Ltd was established. The stock holders were China Peace (Beijing) Investment Co., Ltd holding 25% stock, Shanxi Province Qinshui County State-owned Assets Management Bureau 25%, China Datong Industries Co., Ltd 20%, Jincheng Zhongjia Coal Industries Co., Ltd. 20%, and Beijing Runxin Investment Co., Ltd holding 10%. And their total investment was RMB50 million, ranging from RMB12.5 million to 5 million for individual investors.

Among the RMB50 million registered capital, except for the RMB12.5 million invested by Shanxi Province Qinshui County State-owned Assets Management Bureau, the remaining balance was arranged to be paid by the other four outside companies on a three-payment-a-year installment plan. The remaining balance of the total net asset of the state-owned assets, which was RMB77 million, was later arranged to be paid in full in four years.

It was naturally shown that the four outside companies brought into the deal by Lv purchased RMB0.11 billion worth of state-owned assets with only RMB37.5 million, enjoying the grant not only of their late payments of the registered capital, but also the late full payment in four years. This became the proof of the news of “selling state-owned assets below value” and “purchasing this state-owned asset with Qinshui county’s own state-owned assets.”
However, in those years when the coal market was struggling at low prices, the above deal didn’t arouse much dispute. Lv was even regarded as a “pretty daughter” who brought back home a handsome son-in-law, referring to the outside companies. But this deal would become a direct cause of dispute in the years to come.

The then media even summarized the outside investment of coal exploration and mine planning into two ways, one was from the private business owners from Zhejiang area, and the other was from the investor of Beijing. And Lv was thought as a model for the latter.

Some media commented on Lv and his
Qinhe Energy Group Co. Ltd, “The investors from Beijing was introduced by government into the coal exploration and mine planning through reforms of the state-owned enterprises, while the investors from Zhejiang took a civilian marketing approach. Dramatically, Beijing investors chose to settle down to actively engage in reforms and innovations of the property and management system; while the Zhejiang people chose a temporary stay and operated their business within the old system quietly.

At that time, Lv’s business perspective and capacity were different from other ordinary coal bosses, resulting in huge profit difference. Lv told the report, “I entered the coal business in 1998. In Qinshui area, the lowest price for one ton’s coal was RMB15, with the whole coal industry remaining in loss. Even then, I could still make profits.”

The locals would talk about him, “When the coal price was so low, he could still make profits. So he was thought as a business genius by the local government, who sought for his joint cooperation.”

“He rose to his fame and success in such a short time. It’s because he knew things about capitals, and he had good judgments on the economic trends. Seeing the definite rise of coal price and the rich coal resource in his hometown, Lv set up a coal mine of himself, though quite small in size. At that time, only idiots would invest in coal industry. But his classmates in People’s University were all studying economics and they could get a better prediction of economy. And since it was relatively easy to get business financing then with the help of his classmates, he got his first pot of gold.”

A middle level cadre in Jicheng city once said, “Lv used to be an employee of the State Scientific and Technological Commission. He returned back to his hometown to buy coal mine only when he had known in advance from inner circle that the coal price would rise.”
In fact, some coal business owners in Jicheng city pointed out that, when Lv and his Qinhe Energy Group Co. Ltd took steps to reform and reorganize the local coal mines, the coal industry had been experiencing a record low in revenue for quite some time. The anthracite coal produced in Qinshui County only had the average selling price of RMB15 at the production site.

Lv’s PHD degree in economics apparently helped him make the insightful market forecasts and predictions in coal industry. In 2004 only, his company produced 2.425 million tons of raw coals, making profits of RMB0.27 billion and paying taxes of RMB0.156 billion. The tax it paid per ton was four times on average over that of other coal producers that didn’t undergo reforms.
According to the State Statistics Bureau’s report in October 2004, Qinhe Energy Group Co. Ltd was listed among the ten most profitable companies in national coal industry, and ranked #1nationwdie if based upon the amount of profit made per ton.
Zhao Xuefeng, the general manager of Qinhe Energy Group Co. Ltd, said that in the year of 2011 the company produced 4.32 million tons of raw coal and its sale revenue reached RMB4.4 billion, paying RMB3.1 billion tax and making RMB1.95 billion net profits. Lv’s billionaire fame matched the reality.

In those years, the depiction of coal bosses in general in the news media was “The coal bosses squatted on the hill tops, feeling complacent while looking at cranes operating to dig out the coal and counting one dig for one thousand RMB.” But this clearly had nothing to do with Lv when he was having the interview with the reporter.

Some reporter commented on Lv, “Before knowing Lv, I had had the showing-off impression about the coal bosses. But Lv changed my view completely.” He also said, “He is the scholar type of person, a well-educated businessman.”

With the rapid rise of coal price, it’s undoubtedly true that Lv’s wealth has been increasing in the meantime.

Lv complained to the reporter, “Some people claimed that I embezzled RMB80 billion state-owned assets. But my company’s total assets is no more than RMB8 billion. How come I could embezzle RMB80 billion?”

No matter a parvenu or well-educated businessman, Lv was confronted with continuous tip-offs and negative information against him questioning his wealthy. Apparently, the whereabouts of RMB80 billion state-owned assets needs an explanation.

Lv said, “Personally, I don’t want to be a moral standard that people can look up to. But it’s not easy to do business. Sometimes, if you act like a bad guy, nothing bad will happen to you. But when you want to do clean things, you’d get troubles.”

According to the local people, in order to avoid unnecessary social activities and dinner parties, Lv spent most of his time hiding in Beijing or Hong Kong. If being bothered with an invitation call, he’d excuse himself by saying he’s traveling in other cities. This is the reason that Lv keeps low all the time.

May 15, 2012 Chinese Consulate Protest

Protest by National Committee of DPC in front of Chinese Consulate General

Members of National Committee of DPC had protest and demonstration in front of Chinese Consulate General in NYC / Video
To support Chen Guangcheng and protest against the CCP's trampling on human rights

On-spot-report regarding protest activity by DPC

On May 8, 2012 at , party members of DPC in the U.S. had once-a-month protest and demonstration activity in front of the Chinese Consulate General in NYC. This protest activity was chaired by Zhang Jian, President of New York District Committee of DPC in the U.S.  Wang Juntao, Common President of DPC, attended our activity as usual and he made a wonderful topic speech.

At the beginning, Mr. Zhang Jian spoke, " Today the topic of our protest activity is to support the well-known activitist, blind lawyer Chen Guangcheng, suffered crazy retaliations and suppress by the local government in Linyi of Shangdong Province because he revealed the forced abortion and sterilization as part of the One-child policy and problems on other illegal crimes by the government.  Not only did the Linyi government trump up the crimes to detain Chen Guagncheng for 4 years, after he was released, the governments also continued sending large number of people to long-term watch and monitor him in order to make him cut off all connections from the outside world.  Moreover, Chen Guangcheng couple and his old mother received brutally beating and insult by the force hired by the local government.  Even their children were not able get the normal school education.  All rights of citizen and politics regulated in the China's constitution were trampled.  Today we are here to represent the human right activities and dissidents, like Chen Guangcheng who was persecuted by the CCP; represent the weak groups who live at the bottom of the society and suffer all of kinds of suppression; represent those 13 billions Chinese people who have no freedom and human right ruled by the CCP, to express our strong protest and condemn.

Common President of DPC, Wang Juntao, made the next speech.  He said," In these recent two weeks, the biggest news in China is the blind lawyer, Chen Guangcheng, made a miracle to escape from his hometown, Shigu village, Linyi of Shandong.  With the help of the warm-heart friend, he entered the U.S. Embassy in China.  With the emergent dealing between the governments of China and America and the great concern by the world media, Chen Guangcheng and his family got temporary safety.  The CCP always called this party is the representatives of advanced culture, general people's benefits and advanced production development.  However, the CCP is not even able to protect a disabled.  The fact proves that the CCP only represents benefited groups and dignitaries!"

President Wang Juntao also talked about the event that Vice Mayor and Secretary of Public Security Bureau of Chongqing city, Wang Lijun escaped and entered the U.S. Embassy in Chongqing in this February.  Also Cheng Guangcheng escaped and enter the U.S. Embassy.  Why that happened one another?  The reason is no matter Chen Guangcheng or Wang Lijun, officials or common people, they all face all kinds of suppress and horror, even is the life threat in their life enviornment.  When the military in a country is not used to resist the outside invasion of abuse but to suppress people and when the police in a country are not used to protect the safety of the society but to bully people, this kind of political right has totally become the enemy of people.  Therefore, people have the right to turn over the government of reactionary.  We are here today to tell the world, we, DPC, will end the CCP's one party autocracy and build the China with constitution and democracy.  We will let Chinese people to live "freedom, respect, safety and happiness."

President's wonderful speech deeply touched the party members who participated in this activity and people who surrounded and stopped by.  Some party members Sun Yu, Zhou Xiaoyang, Zhang Yuhong, Tao Hongbo, Sun Shuzi,Li, Wen, Sun Xuming and Li Chao led everyone to loudly call slogan.  With our most resonant voice, we support all activities, dissidents, the political criminals, like Chen Guangcheng who was persecuted and protest the CCP's corruption and tyranny.
